Juventus goalkeeper, Gigi Buffon says that the crazy moment that led to Real Madrid eliminating Juventus from the Champions League made him feel alive.
The Italian giants were up 3-0 against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu towards the end of the game and if the result stood, the game would have gone to extra time and Juventus (who looked like the team most likely to score) needed just one goal to advance to the semi-finals.
However, a last-second call by the referee, Michael Oliver gave Real Madrid a penalty which Cristiano Ronaldo easily buried. But that wasn’t all. Juventus’ goalkeeper, Buffon was also sent off for aggressive confrontation towards the referee. Speaking to reporters after the game, Buffon says that even though the decision was difficult to accept at the time, it was still a thrilling moment.
“The decisions we make are a way of defining ourselves and making us what we want to be,” Buffon said.
“You can even go too far, sometimes getting it wrong. But that means you’re alive, and that’s why I came into the world.”
“After the Bernabeu I went for long walks, mushrooms and daisies. It was a week that allowed me to experience strong emotions, beautiful, pure adrenaline.”
“I also live for that.”
