The relationship between Antonio Conte and the Chelsea board has gotten so bad that it’s believed the management is ready to sack Conte right away, but the only thing standing in the way is his salary.
Conte’s contract runs till 2021, so if they sack him now, they would still owe him 30m euros. However, if the results are still poor after the next few games, reports are that they will ask Conte to reach an agreement with them over a departure fee.
According to Spanish publication Sport, the board is already lining up Conte’s replacement. Former Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique is said to be the main target. Enrique left Barcelona in 2017 and it’s believed that the Spanish manager is interested in testing his wings in the Premier League and go up against the likes of Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp, and Pep Guardiola.
