Liverpool’s star player, Mohamed Salah, has responded to recent talks of the Ballon d’Or going to him instead of Cristiano Ronaldo.
On May 26, Liverpool and Real Madrid will go head-to-head in the Champions League final. Liverpool is currently one of the hottest (arguably the hottest) team in Europe and Real Madrid is the more successful and experienced of the two sides, so by all measures, the matchup is sure to be an exciting one.
But the biggest story is not about Real vs Liverpool. It’s about Mohamed Salah vs Cristiano Ronaldo. Salah’s performance this season has taken the Premier League and Europe by storm. The Egyptian has been so good that some are now calling him a very strong candidate to win the Ballon d’Or, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.
So the Champions League final could well prove to be the pivotal moment that decides who deserves the Ballon d’Or more: Ronaldo or Salah. But according to Mohamed Salah, the final will not be about him or Ronaldo.
“It is not going to be a final between Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo, I am playing for a great club, and we have great players.”
“So qualifying to the final came with great teamwork, that I cannot do it alone.”
“I know all of the Arab people wish the best for me in the Ballon d’Or, and they are happy every time I win, but now at the moment I am only thinking about the final and to bring the trophy to Anfield.”
