After being away from football for almost a year, former Borussia Dortmund boss, Thomas Tuchel, is ready to get his feet wet again. The 44-year-old German was heavily linked to Bayern but rejected them for another ‘top foreign club’.
Following their elimination to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, PSG considered it a failure yet again on Unai Emery’s part and began searching for a successor. With Emery’s contract expiring in the summer, and the French Giants having no intentions of renewing his deal – Thomas Tuchel emerges as the clear favorite to take over in the summer.
According to French publication RMC Sport, PSG is in advanced discussions with Thomas Tuchel. Discussions with PSG President, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, have been ongoing for several days, and are almost finalized. It would be a two year deal with an option for a third year. PSG are not only pleased with his offensive philosophy, but also his ability to speak French.
Bayern Munich chairman Rummenigge identified Tuchel last Fall as his number one target to replace outgoing Jupp Heynckes, but President Uli Hoeness was not convinced then. When he finally gave his approval a few weeks ago, Tuchel rejected Bayern’s deal as he was already close to securing a managerial position with another club. Arsenal also courted the German manager but the French press are adamant the deal with PSG will be tied up in the coming days.
